John Kluempers, Ph.D.

John helps both  Early Career Researchers and advanced academics improve their professional communication. He focuses on three important areas in particular:

  • Academic lectures and presentations
Participants find out how they can best match their research to any setting and audience - in front of a committee as well as during their defense or at an international conference.

  • Poster presentation
In this workshop, participants learn how to design their posters - and how to use them successfully as a basis for short presentations and discussions.

  • Communication at conferences
Participants learn how to present themselves professionally in both formal and informal contexts - in presentation and discussion just as well as in social settings. The goal is to create and maintain good contact with colleagues and decision-makers.

John's experience is multifaceted. He concluded his Ph.D. in linguistics at the University of Claifornia, Los Angeles (UCLA) and taught nearly ten years at universities in the US and Japan.

John actively used his presentation skills as a radio journalist in the Los Angeles and Tokyo before beginning a nearly decade-long stint as a news and sports broadcaster for Deutsche Welle’s English service in Bonn. His experience in interview and moderating sessions help him provide his workshop participants with tricky situations that they will hopefully never encounter.

In addition to his professional radio work, John is an expert for professional and scientific English presentations. As a member of Toastmasters International, John has been awarded several prizes for excellence in speaking. He also co-founded Bonn International Toastmasters and served his club in several positions for years.

Over the course of his work career, John has learned about the necessity of precision and conciseness in communication as well as about fine-tuning information for audiences.

He transfers this experience into his workshops - with a lot of great feedback.

Anne Kathrin Jansen

Therefore, she knows the rules of the game in academic communication: in Germany, Europe, and the world.

Speeches and presentations have been Anne Kathrin's special interests for years. She is a speaker, loves moderating, and is a sought-after trainer in rhetoric and presentation workshops. Anne Kathrin helps young scientists discover and develop their personal potential when presenting - and to act with confidence and poise even in difficult situations.

In addition, Anne Kathrin supports textATRIUM with training courses for administrative staff - a biotope in which she really knows her way around. Good communication is as important to her as her daily bread - and she likes to share both with others.
